This week’s Ravens injury report comes nothing close to being an accurate representation of the team’s health situation.
Baltimore lists defensive tackle Ma’ake Kemoeatu (knee), tackle Bryant McKinnie (thigh), defensive tackle Haloti Ngata (knee) and cornerback Jimmy Smith (abs) as questionable, while tackle Ramon Harewood (head) is probable for Sunday’s game against the Texans.
That includes no mention of Ray Lewis and Lardarius Webb, both of whom are on injured reserve, no Terrell Suggs, who is eligible to return at Houston, and no Ed Reed, who revealed he’s playing with a torn labrum.
Reed seemed unconcerned about the injury he said he suffered before Week 3.
“I’m not a pitcher. I don’t play baseball. So long as I’m not throwing ... That’s something that we knew about. It’s nothing to worry about,” the safety told reporters. “The last few weeks, I have been dealing with it. I am not a pitcher, so I am not throwing anything. I haven’t been pressing, so it’s all right.
“I’ll be all right. In the New England game, I was able to tackle. In the games after that, still making tackles. I missed a few, but it happens.”
As for Suggs, there have been reports that he would play this weekend that both he and the team have refuted.
He said he wants to take it easy and not rush back to ensure he doesn’t reinjure the Achilles tendon that kept him out for the first six games. But the defensive losses of Lewis and Webb motivate him to push it a bit.
“It’ll always be out there in your mind. You want to be out there with your brothers, especially when you lose your big brother (Ray Lewis),” Suggs told reporters. “It’s always going to be there, but at the end of the day, we have to do what’s best not only for myself, but for the team.”
The Texans have a much longer injury report for Sunday. Defensive end David Hunter (toe) is out. Safety Quintin Demps (thumb/forearm) and cornerback Johnathan Joseph (groin) are questionable.
Linebacker Bryan Braman (knee), guard Antoine Caldwell (concussion), nose tackle Shaun Cody (back), linebacker Bradie James (calf), wideout Lestar Jean (knee), center Ben Jones (knee), safety Shiloh Keo (neck/back/thumb), center Chris Myers (hip), linebacker Jesse Nading (foot/neck), tackle Derek Newton (forearm), guard Wade Smith (knee) and tailback Ben Tate (toe) are listed as probable.
