C. Johnson doubtful, McPhee questionable, Pitta probable for Ravens vs. Chargers

Ravens defensive end Pernell McPhee appears close to a return, perhaps this Sunday at the San Diego Chargers.

McPhee has missed the last three games because of a thigh injury, but was listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report. Cornerback Jimmy Smith (abs) is listed as out while cornerback Chris Johnson (thigh) is doubtful.

Tight end Dennis Pitta (head) highlights the 13 Ravens listed as probable for the contest. He suffered a concussion in the first half against the Steelers Sunday night and missed the rest of game. Coach John Harbaugh told reporters Friday that Pitta passed his baseline test and also said he’s confident that both Pitta and McPhee will play.

Also listed as probable for Sunday are: linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo (shoulder), nose tackle Terrence Cody (arm), tight end Ed Dickson (neck), linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (toe/finger), safety James Ihedigbo (neck), wideout Jacoby Jones (ankle), defensive tackle Haloti Ngata (shoulder), safety Bernard Pollard (chest), safety Ed Reed (shoulder), linebacker Terrell Suggs (shoulder/ankle), linebacker Courtney Upshaw (shoulder) and guard Marshal Yanda (ankle).

The Chargers announced that linebacker Larry English (calf), tackle Jared Gaither (groin) and wideout Eddie Royal (hamstring) have been ruled out. Gaither was placed on the injured reserve.

Guard Tyronne Green (hamstring) and tight end Dante Rosario (hamstring) are doubtful while defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin (knee) is questionable.

Safety Atari Bigby (shoulder), punter Mike Scifres (right ankle) and guard Louis Vasquez (ankle) were listed as probable.
