Ravens designate Dennis Pitta to return, re-sign Billy Bajema

The Ravens announced Wednesday morning that they have placed tight end Dennis Pitta on injured reserve/designated to return and re-signed tight end Billy Bajema.

Pitta dislocated and fractured his hip in practice less than a week into training camp. He was originally ruled out for the season, but the Ravens have since backtracked from that stance.

Pitta will now be eligible to return to practice following the Oct. 14 visit from the Dallas Cowboys and he will be permitted to play on Oct. 21 against the Houston Texans. It is not yet known whether that is realistic, but given the original prognosis, he likely won’t be ready until late in the season if at all.

Bajema’s re-signing gives Baltimore three tight ends for its opener at Denver, and that’s especially important with Ed Dickson working his way back from a partially torn hamstring. Dickson said Tuesday that he feels 100 percent, but after missing much of training camp, he might not be ready to assume a full workload, if he plays at all.
