The Ravens hoped that the seemingly short-term injuries suffered by several players last Sunday would allow them to get on the field today.
Coach John Harbaugh called tailback Ray Rice (hip), defensive end Chris Canty (thigh), linebacker Arthur Brown (chest) and cornerback Chykie Brown (knee) gametime decisions. Only Chykie Brown is active among that group.
Rice will miss his first game since sitting out the last three games of 2008, his rookie campaign. Rice had played in 66 straight regular season contests before halting that streak today.
Canty, Arthur Brown, wideout Jacoby Jones (knee), center Ryan Jensen (foot), wideout Deonte Thompson (foot) and defensive tackle Brandon Williams (toe) join Rice on the inactive list.
So the Ravens will be pretty shorthanded today against the Texans, as their increased depth in the defensive front seven will get its first true test sans Canty and Arthur Brown.
Brandon Stokely will start at wideout in Jones’ spot. Bernard Pierce is starting at running back for Rice. Marcus Spears will start in Canty’s place at defensive end.
On the other side, safety Ed Reed will make his Texans debut against his former team after missing the first two games of the season following offseason hip surgery. Wideout Andre Johnson alson is active for Houston.
Inactive for the Texans are quarterback Case Keenum, wideout Lestar Jean, linebacker Sam Montgomery, guard Cody White, tackle Duane Brown, linebacker Justin Tuggle and defensive end Tim Jamison.
