Pitta in, Dumervil out for Ravens vs. Vikings

Dennis Pitta is officially back. The Ravens tight end is active for today’s game against the Vikings after being moved from injured reserve to the 53-man roster on Saturday.

Just how much he plays remains to be seen and it’s easy to see both sides of the argument with the M&T Bank Stadium turf covered in snow less than 90 minutes before kickoff.

It’s possible he plays less to preserve his health in slippery conditions. It’s also possible he plays more because these are the type of conditions where he’d be most valuable. An interesting conundrum.

Baltimore will be without linebacker Elvis Dumervil, the team’s sacks leader, because of a sprained ankle. Dumervil has 9.5 sacks in 12 games this season.

The Ravens also deactivated safety Brynden Trawick (ankle), safety Omar Brown, center Ryan Jensen, wideout Deonte Thompson, tight end Dallas Clark and defensive tackle Brandon Williams.

All four questionable players - defensive end Chris Canty, cornerback Asa Jackson, receiver Brandon Stokley and cornerback Lardarius Webb - are active for Baltimore.

Inactive for the Vikings: quarterback Christian Ponder (concussion), cornerback Josh Robinson (chest), guard Jeff Baca, tackle Mike Remmers, tight end Kyle Rudolph (foot), wideout Rodney Smith and defensive tackle Chase Baker.

Matt Cassel will start at quarterback in Ponder’s place. John Carlson will start at tight end for Rudolph and Xavier Rhodes will start for Robinson at cornerback.
