Vikings take first lead in fourth quarter (Ravens win 29-26)

The Ravens held on to the lead for as long as they could while unable to find their footing before the Vikings finally went on top.

Minnesota took a 12-7 lead with 14:28 remaining, taking advantage of on Joe Flacco’s second interception of the game. The Vikings drove 33 yards in five plays for their first touchdown of the contest after Andrew Sandejo’s pick gave them possession in Baltimore territory.

Matt Cassel capped the series with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Jerome Simpson on a crossing pattern in the back of the end zone. Minnesota then failed to covert a two-point conversion with Matt Elam breaking up the pass.

The Ravens made a move all the way to the Vikings’ 21 on the next possession. But they opted to go for it on fourth down rather than take a field goal to still trail by five with 10:36 to go.

Update: The Ravens defense came up with big stand after big stand, and the offense finally came through to reclaim the lead.

Baltimore has taken a 15-12 lead with 2:05 remaining on a 1-yard touchdown pass from Flacco to Dennis Pitta followed by a 7-yard two-point conversion pass to Torrey Smith.

The Ravens drove 64 yards in nine plays and ate 4:27 off the clock, keeping the ball from Minnesota until the two-minute warning. Flacco put together an excellent drive, going 4-for-5 for 29 yards and a touchdown.

The biggest play, however, was some free yardage from the Vikings - a 37-yard pass interference call on Robert Blanton.

Update II: That didn’t last long. Two plays and 38 seconds after the Ravens took the lead, the Vikings grabbed it right back.

Cassel completed a 27-yard pass to Simpson before Toby Gerhart ran 41 yards for a touchdown, putting Minnesota on top 19-15 with 1:27 remaining.

Can the Ravens respond?

Update III: What a crazy finish. The Ravens reclaimed the lead even faster than that.

Jacoby Jones returned the ensuing kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown and desperate to win, Baltimore is back on top 22-19 with 1:16 remaining.

That’s 22 points in 49 seconds after the teams combined for 19 points in the first 57:55 of the contest.

Update IV: This is officially the weirdest game I’ve ever seen.

The Vikings answered Jones’ kickoff return with a 79-yard touchdown pass to Cordarrelle Patterson with 45 seconds remaining. Minnesota is now up 26-22. The teams have combined for 29 points in 1:20.

But the Ravens aren’t done. First play of the next drive - Flacco to Marlon Brown for 35 yards. Baltimore is across midfield.

Update V: What else can happen in two minutes?

Well, another Ravens touchdown of course. Flacco completed a 9-yard touchdown pass to Brown with four seconds remaining to give Baltimore a 29-26 lead.

That would be 80 yards in 41 seconds for yet another score and 36 points in 2:01 between the teams.

Update VI: No one will forget this one anytime soon.

The Ravens wrap the snow bowl with a 29-26 win over the Vikings and improve to 7-6, keeping control of their postseason fate. The teams combined for 36 points in the last 2:05.

More to come.
