Preseason schedule is out

It’ll still be another couple weeks before we get the 2010 regular season schedule, but the Ravens have announced their slate of four preseason games.

The purple and black will open things up against the Panthers on Thursday, August 12 at M&T Bank Stadium. That game will be aired on ESPN.

The Ravens will then head down I-95 to take on the Redskins a week later in the latest edition of the Battle of the Beltway. The date hasn’t been set on that game yet, but it will take place either on Friday, August 20 or Saturday, August 21.

A home game against the Giants will follow, with that game taking place on either Friday, August 27 or Saturday the 23rd.

The Ravens will close the preseason in St. Louis with a game against the Rams on Thursday, Sept. 2.

“Opening on national television gives a little more incentive during training camp to be ready for a large audience,” head coach John Harbaugh said in a statement. “I know that playing the Redskins in the preseason is something our fans enjoy, and it gives us a backyard rivalry that adds some spice to that game.

“The Giants, like us, are a tough, physical team similar to those we play in our division, which makes that game a good tune-up. Playing indoors at St. Louis prepares us for that type of environment... Overall, it’s a good, balanced schedule that will help us prepare for the regular season.”

Here’s the preseason schedule in a snapshot:

Thurs..............8/12...............CAROLINA PANTHERS (ESPN-TV)
Fri./Sat........8/20 or Washington Redskins
Fri./Sat........8/27 or 28....................NEW YORK GIANTS
Thurs...............9/ St. Louis Rams
