It’s been four weeks since Tom Zbikowski injured his heel in a loss to the Patriots, but the third-year safety still is not healthy enough to play this Sunday against the Panthers.
Head coach John Harbaugh said today that the Ravens are optimistic about Zbikowski’s chances for next Sunday against the Buccaneers, however, and said that the team is not considering putting Zbikowski on season-ending Injured Reserve.
“No, there’s no chance he’ll be put on IR,” Harbaugh said. “We were targeting this week. We were hopeful. Didn’t happen. We’re shooting for next week. There’s no chance he’ll go on IR.”
I saw Zbikowski briefly earlier in the week, and he appeared to be walking much better than even a week or two ago.
Meanwhile, cornerback Fabian Washington missed practice Thursday and was limited on Wednesday because of an illness, but he said he was feeling better today, and was able to participate in this afternoon’s practice.
“Man, it’s been rough the last two days,” Washington said. “I’ve just been feeling really sick. Head cold mixed with headaches. It’s been bad the last two days, but I’m coming around.”
Washington said he expects to be ready to play on Sunday at Carolina.
“Yeah, I think so,” he said. “I felt good today other than trying to get my legs back up under me. I haven’t practiced in, what, two days? You’ve got to get back in shape, so I ran a lot more than what I was used to running in practice.”
