Report: Ravens to talk shop with Gaither

At the Ravens’ season-ending press conference, general manager Ozzie Newsome and head coach John Harbaugh said they’d be interested in having offensive tackle Jared Gaither back next season despite the fact he missed the entire 2010 campaign with a back injury.

Now, the team is apparently getting to work on negotiating with the big fella.

The Ravens are scheduled to talk with Gaither’s camp about a new contract on Wednesday, according to a report by the NFL Network.

Gaither didn’t see a single snap this season because of an injury to the thoracic disc in his back suffered on the second day of training camp.

With the four-year veteran out, the Ravens had to shuffle their offensive line this season, moving right guard Marshal Yanda to the right tackle spot and inserting Chris Chester at guard.

The team hopes to move Yanda back to his right guard spot in 2011, but they would have to sign a quality tackle first.

Enter Gaither, who has battled injuries the last couple years, but has played well when healthy.

If the Ravens can re-sign the Maryland product at a decent price, they’ll be on their way to restoring an O-line which disappointed in 2010.
