Early notes through the first 10 selections

I'm all set up at Ravens HQ in Owings Mills, have had my fill of buffalo wings, and am ready to settle in for the long haul.

Let's get to business.

The Ravens have a new big-bodied, athletic wide receiver wearing a Bengals jersey that they'll have to defend.

Chad Ochocinco is likely on his way out of Cincinnati, but A.J. Green is on his way in. The Georgia wide receiver, who dominated at the collegiate level and was universally considered the top wideout in this year's draft, went to the Bengals with the No. 4 overall pick.

The 6-foot-3, 211-pound receiver had 57 receptions for 848 yards and nine touchdowns in just nine games last year.

The Bengals might not have a quarterback to throw Green the ball, but I wonder how Domonique Foxworth and the Ravens cornerbacks feel about that selection and having to match up against Green twice a year.

Meanwhile, after the Jaguars traded up to No. 10 to select Blaine Gabbert, three quarterbacks have been taken so far.

That's great news for the Ravens, who would love to keep seeing quarterbacks come off the board. The more signal-callers get taken early on, the better it is for Ozzie Newsome, who will have a greater quantity of playmakers at need positions (defensive end/outside linebacker, offensive tackle, cornerback) to choose from.
