Jimmy Smith returns, Hardy, Dickson sit

After missing the last four practices with a groin injury, rookie first-round cornerback Jimmy Smith is back and participating in today's session at M&T Bank Stadium.

Smith, whose injury head coach John Harbaugh referred to as a "minor groin tweak", will be eased back into the action so as not to aggravate the injury.

While Smith is back in pads and a helmet today, wide receiver James Hardy and tight end Ed Dickson are not.

Hardy is still dealing with a hamstring injury, which is limiting his ability to make an impression on the coaching staff. The Ravens obviously want to wait until Hardy is healthy before rushing him back onto the field, but the former second-round pick is missing valuable time each day that he's stuck watching from the sidelines.

Dickson is dealing with an undisclosed injury, which is causing him to miss his second straight practice. Fellow second-year tight end Dennis Pitta is getting the reps with the first-team offense in Dickson's absence.

There's a pretty good turnout and atmosphere here at the stadium, and fans are still slowly filing in. About three-quarters of the lower bowl at M&T Bank Stadium is filled with those clad in purple and black.

Now, if we could just do something about this in-stadium entertainment over the loudspeakers ...
