News and notes before Friday’s practice

We’re just a few minutes away from the start of Friday’s practice session and the Ravens still have plenty of things to figure out before next week’s opening preseason game against the Eagles.

This will be the team’s final practice before fans get their one and only look at the on-field product, and as the Ravens’ rookies told reporters yesterday, it’s a day they’re looking forward to just as much as the fans.

As far as any big news, the Ravens continue to be the supposed leaders for wide receiver Malcom Floyd, but no deal has been reached as of the start of practice. We’ll be sure to let you know if that changes, which could be as early as dinner time tonight.

Former Ravens pass catcher Derrick Mason still seems to be itching to come back to Baltimore, and is mulling over his options with the Ravens, Jets and Titans reportedly at the top of his wish list.

For those fans hoping to see Olin Kruetz in Baltimore, the former Bears center has reportedly reached an agreement with the New Orleans Saints, so the team will continue to shop around for a center to step in behind starter Matt Birk.

As always, we’ll have updates throughout the day. If the byline looks a little strange to you, don’t panic. Dan has given me the reins today, so I’ll do my best to fill his shoes.

More to come later on...
