With cornerbacks Chris Carr and Jimmy Smith ruled out for tomorrow's game against the Titans, the Ravens have turned to their practice squad to improve their depth at corner.
The team signed Danny Gorrer off the practice squad today, and waived linebacker Jason Phillips to create room for Gorrer on the 53-man roster.
A second-year player out of Texas A&M, Gorrer signed with the Ravens as a free agent in 2010 and spent the majority of the season on the practice squad. Gorrer, who checks in at 6-foot, 185-lbs., has seen action in three games, including one start, in his NFL career.
Gorrer's NFL experience gives him an edge over rookie Chykie Brown, who is on the active roster but might not yet be ready for game action.
The Ravens currently only have three healthy cornerbacks with legitimate NFL track records - Cary Williams, Lardarius Webb and Domonique Foxworth. Gorrer gives them an additional option, while Brown appears to be more of a project at this point.
Phillips was a fifth-round draft pick in 2009. He spent that year on injured reserve, and appeared in nine games for the Ravens last year, seeing most of his action on special teams. Phillips was a gameday inactive last week against the Steelers.
