Carr, Grubbs will not play vs. Jets; Kindle will

The Ravens’ depth at cornerback is getting seriously tested.

First Jimmy Smith goes down, then Domonique Foxworth gets put on injured reserve. Now, Chris Carr’s bum hamstring keeps causing problems.

Carr is inactive for tonight’s game against the Jets because of the hamstring, leaving the Ravens with four healthy corners - two of which have played in a combined six NFL games. Starters Lardarius Webb and Cary Williams will be joined by Danny Gorrer and rookie Chykie Brown, who will be called on to help contain the likes of Santonio Holmes, Plaxico Burress and Derrick Mason.

To make matters worse, safety Haruki Nakamura - who can jump in and play in the Ravens’ nickel packages when they need a fifth defensive back - is out because of a knee injury.

Starting left guard Ben Grubbs (toe) is also inactive for tonight’s game, making this three straight games that he’s been out. Andre Gurode will start in Grubbs’ place for the second week in a row.

One positive for those who have been clamoring for linebacker Sergio Kindle to get some game action - the 2010 second-round pick is active tonight and will make his NFL debut.

The fact that Kindle is able to play at all after suffering a fractured skull last summer is pretty impressive. You’ve got to feel good for a guy that has worked so hard to get back on the field.

Here’s the full list of Ravens’ inactives: WR/RS David Reed, CB Jimmy Smith, CB Chris Carr, S Haruki Nakamura, LB Dannell Ellerbe, G Ben Grubbs, WR Lee Evans.

For the Jets, three-time Pro Bowl center Nick Mangold is inactive because of an ankle injury. Rookie Colin Baxter will start in Mangold’s place.

Mr. Baxter, meet Haloti Ngata. Good luck with that.

Here are the Jets’ inactives: QB Kevin O’Connell, WR Logan Payne, S Emanuel Cook, RB Bilal Powell, FB/TE Josh Baker, C Nick Mangold, DT Kenrick Ellis.
