Lewis inactive, Evans will play

For the first time since 2007, linebacker Ray Lewis will miss a game.

For the first time since Week 2, wide receiver Lee Evans will play in a game.

Lewis has been declared one of the Ravens’ seven inactives, ending speculation that he might try and play despite a foot injury which kept him out of practice all week.

The Ravens have announced that third-year inside linebacker Dannell Ellerbe will start in Lewis’ place. Ellerbe has missed the last four games and five of the last six with a hamstring injury.

While the news of Lewis’ absence is a clear negative, Ravens fans will be excited to hear of Evans’ return.

The veteran wide receiver has been out since Week 2 because of a lingering ankle injury. Evans is listed as a starter on the Ravens’ depth chart, but we’ll have to see how much action the eight-year vet gets today in his return to action after missing two months.

One other bit of news to pass along this morning is that wide receiver/kick returner David Reed will not play today.

Reed is inactive, meaning he has gone from the Ravens’ top kick returner to a spectator in just a week’s time. Reed lost two fumbles last week in a loss to the Seahawks, and he put the ball on the ground once against the Steelers two weeks ago, as well.

Here are the Ravens’ inactives today: WR/RS David Reed, WR Tandon Doss, CB Chykie Brown, RB Anthony Allen, LB Ray Lewis, OLB Sergio Kindle, DT Art Jones.

While the Ravens will have a big loss on the defensive side of the ball with Lewis’ absence, the Bengals will be missing a key component of their offensive unit.

Cincinnati’s top wide receiver, rookie A.J. Green, will not play today because of a knee injury. Andre Caldwell will get the start in Green’s place.

Adam “Pacman” Jones will get his first start of the season at cornerback for Cincinnati, replacing Kelly Jennings.

Here are the Bengals’ inactives: WR A.J. Gree, S Robert Sands, LB Dontay Moch, G Clint Boling, T Anthony Collins, TE Donald Lee, WR Ryan Whalen.

The Ravens are in their purple jerseys and white pants today, while the Bengals are in their white jerseys and black pants.
