Handful of veterans sit out low-tempo practice

Today's Ravens practice had a training camp-like feel to it, as players shuffled back and forth from special teams drills to positional work as fundamentals appeared to be a focus.

It was a low-tempo practice this afternoon, one designed to keep the players fresh while also allowing them to get some rest and not tax their bodies too heavily during the bye week.

The Ravens got a handful of their injured players back today, while also choosing to rest a number of their veterans.

Wide receiver Anquan Boldin (knee surgery) was at practice, running routes and looking smooth going in and out of his breaks. Just from what I was able to see, he doesn't look like a guy whose knee was operated on only two weeks ago

Also practicing today were a trio of players coming back from concussions - safety Tom Zbikowski, cornerback Jimmy Smith and linebacker Dannell Ellerbe.

Those who got the afternoon off were: guards Ben Grubbs and Marshal Yanda, linebackers Ray Lewis, Brendon Ayanbadejo and Jameel McClain, and defensive tackle Haloti Ngata.

Ayanbadejo (quad) and McClain (knee) are the only two in that group that have suffered recent injuries, but Grubbs, Yanda, Lewis and Ngata were given time off to let their various bumps and bruises suffered this season heal up.
