With a stretch of divisional games looming, the Browns were dealt a serious blow Tuesday, learning they'll have to march forward without two of their top defensive playmakers. The team announced Tuesday starting linebacker Scott Fujita and starting defensive end Emmanuel Stephens have been placed on injured reserve. To combat the losses, the Browns promoted linebacker Benjamin Jacobs and defensive lineman Brian Sanford from their

The 9-1 record was there, but so too were the doubters. Sure, the 49ers had the second best record in the NFL, but how good would they perform against one of the league's top defenses? Thursday night, we got our answer. Facing a relentless pass rush, 49ers quarterback Alex Smith spent most of the night on his backside. The Ravens' front four dominated San Francisco's

Hopefully you had a tasty Thanksgiving and have settled on the couch for some football. We've got a good one here in Baltimore, as the Ravens lead the 49ers 6-3 at halftime. It was billed as a defensive matchup, and through two quarters that's pretty much where we're at. Dan Kolko will have some first-half notes on the Ravens, but for the visiting 49ers, they

The 49ers and Ravens square off in a little more than 24 hours. Here's the latest injury report for San Francisco: Doubtful: RB Bruce Miller (concussion) Questionable: WR Michael Crabtree (foot) CB Chris Culliver (shoulder) T Anthony Davis (ankle) WR Braylon Edwards (knee) RB Frank Gore (knee)

There are so many storylines to Thursday night's matchup between the 49ers and Ravens. Of course, brothers John and Jim Harbaugh will go head to head, though both say the spotlight shouldn't be on them, while the game itself will feature two teams in first place in their respective divisions. But the similarities don't stop at just the family name and pedigree for winning football.

With the Ravens set to play on Thursday, we'll go ahead and push up the weekly look at the opponent. This week it's the San Francisco 49ers. It's pretty simple: turnovers aren't a recipe for success. Today's chef was Andy Dalton. Despite 373 yards through the air, including a final drive that put the Bengals in position for the tying score, it couldn't mask three interceptions from the rookie, turnovers which translated into 14 points for the Ravens and a 31-24 loss for Cincinnati. Rather than take a 7-3 record and a

We've reached halftime in Baltimore with the Bengals trailing the Ravens 14-7. After a promising opening quarter, the Bengals have struggled to hold onto the early momentum. Running back Cedric Benson capped off a seven-play, 82-yard drive in the first quarter to put the visiting team ahead on the scoreboard, but back-to-back touchdowns from the Ravens have dug Cincinnati a small hole as they look

Just a quick update from Bengals practice as the team prepares to head to Baltimore. Rookie wide receiver A.J. Green indicated prior to Friday's practice that he won't work on his sore knee, making it doubtful that he'll play Sunday against the Ravens. Green suffered an injured knee in last Sunday's loss to Pittsburgh and earlier in the week was labeled a "game-time decision." But

Through nine weeks, the Bengals are one of the league's most surprising teams at 6-3. A big part of that is a defense that is flourishing, both against the run and the pass. Yet as the Bengals prepare for a key road game against the Ravens, they must learn to do so without the presence of Leon Hall. The young cornerback was in the midst

The Bengals are still looking for their statement win of the season. True, they're 6-3 and just a half-game out of first place in the AFC North. But with a loss to the Steelers last week and a brutal remaining schedule, it's over the next month when we'll find out just how legitimate this young Cincinnati team is. Of course, the Bengals' first test comes

Once again, just when you have things all figured out, it happens. This was supposed to be a gimme for the visiting team. A 2-6 Seattle team, reeling, with no real shot at winning the NFC West, welcoming a 6-2 Baltimore squad coming off a huge win at Pittsburgh. You knew the resumes. In the end, it didn't matter. Behind a huge day from running

Seahawks fans pride themselves on being known as the team's "12th man." All due respect to the rowdy bunch, but today that honor goes to Ravens kick returner David Reed. In one of the most mistake-prone halves in recent memory, Reed has been a gift for the Seahawks, fumbling two kickoffs and earning an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty as well. While Seattle has managed just six

The value of a shutdown cornerback in today's league has become increasingly valuable. With quarterbacks running the show and a lethal passing offense critical to winning games, the market for guys who can slow these offenses down has been at a premium. Fortunately for Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, he doesn't have to worry about that. He's got a pair of cornerbacks who are getting the

In the wake of the alleged sex abuse scandal at Penn State, nearly everyone around the country, from media members, alumni and former players have spoken out about the tragic events that have taken a seemingly squeaky clean college program and imploded it in less than a week. The details of the case have been reported time and again, but it's clear these alleged incidents,

In preparation for their game against the Ravens, the Seahawks announced a series of roster moves. Most notably, wide receiver Deon Butler has been activated off the physically unable to perform list, according to The Olympian. Butler, who finished second on the team in receptions (36) and had four touchdowns in 2010, brings an added element of speed to Seattle's receiving corps and could help

It's rare to see the Ravens defense surrender two fourth-quarter touchdowns. It's just as rare to see the Steelers defense allow a 92-yard drive in the final minutes ending in the game's final score. Yet in the latest installment of this intense rivalry, one highlighted by the strength of both defenses, fans watched both teams falter on the defensive side of the ball. Following a

Surprise, surprise neither team has found the end zone. We've reached halftime in Pittsburgh and both defenses are flexing their muscles. The Ravens and Steelers have been exchanging field goals all night and the Ravens hold a 9-6 lead. It looked like Baltimore was going to take care of that whole not-finding-the-end zone label pretty fast, as running back Ray Rice took the opening handoff

The knock on the Pittsburgh Steelers heading into this season was that they were too old to win a championship. Their offensive line was banged up, receivers like Hines Ward were considered well past their primes and the defense had a slew of veterans that, if things didn't go well, could easily be labeled from experienced to just plain old. An opening week loss to

It's tricky to pinpoint exactly whether or not the Ravens are facing the Steelers at the right time. On the one hand, Pittsburgh appears to be hitting its stride, winning its last four games and putting most of those early-season questions, particularly the ones that arose after falling to Baltimore 35-7 in Week 1, behind them. Meanwhile, despite the recent success and perch atop the

Halfway through the season, it's safe to say every team is dealing with its share of injuries and Pittsburgh is no exception. Just days away from their pivotal rematch with the Ravens, the Steelers and head coach Mike Tomlin are busy shuffling around their schemes in order to fill the holes created by so many injured players. Defensively, there are several questions at the linebacker
