Troy Smith's agent, Ralph Cindrich, caused a bit of a stir a few weeks ago when he Tweeted during the Ravens' playoff run that his client wanted to be traded.
Smith supported that statement last week, telling an ESPN Radio affiliate that he would like to play for the Cleveland Browns.
Well, Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome has seen and heard those comments. But he wants to make it clear that no one from Smith's camp has informed him of the quarterback's desire to be dealt.
"I think I have pretty good communication [with people] around the league," Newsome said today. "I think the majority of people know who the general manager of the Baltimore Ravens is. I have not heard from his agent. I know his agent personally. I have not heard back."
As for the concept of trading his team's backup quarterback, Newsome said would listen if another team came calling about Smith, just as he would with any other player on the Ravens' roster.
"When it comes to trading any player, I think we're open to it," Newsome said. "We're open to making our football team better. The [Ravens' front office], if we get something, if some team calls us and is willing to make us an offer for basically any player, we'll sit there and listen to it and we'll talk about it. And if there's an opportunity for us to improve our team by trading away a player that will allow us to get another player, then we'll do it."
