Harewood: "It could have been a lot worse"

After today's minicamp, Ramon Harewood stood in the locker room with what looked like 12 pounds of tape around his injured right knee.

He had suffered what initially looked like a serious knee injury just an hour or so earlier, and yet he talked with reporters for nearly 10 minutes with a smile on his face, discussing his health and interesting back-story.

Reporters have taken to Harewood immediately; fans will likely do so as well.

Luckily, fans will get a chance to see the Ravens' sixth-round pick in action in training camp.

Harewood was engaged with a defender during a full-team drill mid-way through practice and thought he felt someone land behind him. He fell awkwardly, and felt his knee twist in.

He was down on the field for a few minutes and was carted off, but the 6-4, 341 pound lineman said doctors told him he will miss only 3-4 weeks. That might be perfect timing for Harewood to return for rookie camps, which begin June 1.

"They said it's just some tissue, it's no ligament," Harewood said. "I'm just happy about that. I thought it was some kind of ligament gone, but the doctor just said my knee cap probably slipped out a bit and it moved some tissue with it. Of course, it's an injury, but it could have been a lot worse."

Harewood said that he felt some pain initially, but the pain was soon outweighed by the frustration of having to leave practice.

"It's more frustrating because I've got a point to prove, man," Harewood said. "That's the reason I'm here. It's more frustrating than anything else. It hurts a little bit, but that's the hard part right now, is just dealing with the frustration."

The injury marks the end of Harewood's first pro minicamp, one that he said was a bit of an up and down process over the last few days.

"I'm used to kind of dominating, so yesterday was kind of an eye opener," Harewood said, half joking and half serious about the dominating part. "A couple of the older guys, they told me 'It's the NFL. You go back to baby steps and you start again.' So today, I came out with my best foot forward.

"I actually thought I was having a good practice mentally and physically and then this happened. So, you move on from there."
