Head coach John Harbaugh just met with reporters and updated the status of injured linebacker Sergio Kindle.
The news was not promising for the Ravens' second-round pick.
Harbaugh said that Kindle has a fractured skull and some swelling, meaning he will not be able to travel for at least a few weeks. Kindle's long-term healthy isn't threatened, but this will prevent him from showing up at training camp, which runs until August 20th.
"I know one thing, we're going to be very careful with that," Harbaugh said. "You're talking about a head injury playing football, that's not something we're not going to be in a hurry to mess with. From a football standpoint, we'll move on with the guys we've got, and we'll get ready to play the season.
"We'll be preparing without Sergio. Then if at some point in time he can come back and play, that will be a bonus to us. But he'll have a lot of catching up to do.
"The main thing right now is his health, him taking care of what he needs to to make sure he's OK long-term. Then we'll take the next step as it comes."
Harbaugh said that Kindle was at some kind of a function for friends, and stayed overnight. He woke up in the middle of the night and took a wrong turn, resulting in his fall down two flights of steps.
No one from the Ravens organization has been able to talk to Kindle yet, although Harbaugh has talked to the linebacker's father.
Kindle has not yet agreed to a contract with the Ravens, but Harbaugh said that he doesn't see the injury posing a problem with negotiations between the two sides. GM Ozzie Newsome is talking to the management council to figure out how to proceed.
"I'm sure he'll be signed at some point in time," Harbaugh said. "He's a part of our football team, he's a Raven. He'll be here. But the timing of all that, we'll just have to work all that stuff out."
