Offensive lineman David Hale had to be carted off the field late in this morning's practice after colliding with defensive tackle Haloti Ngata.
Hale, who has recently been battling back spasms, was down on the field for five to 10 minutes getting medical attention before being lifted onto the cart and taken into the training room.
Trainers looked to be working on Hale's back as he was taken off. He was able to move his legs and neck and was talking to medical personnel throughout.
There is no immediate update on his status.
Hale, a fourth-round pick out of Weber State in 2008, appeared in 12 games last year. He saw some action from scrimmage but was primarily a special teams player.
The collision came during one-on-one position drills between the offensive and defensive linemen. Hale and Ngata were going up against each other when both men fell to the ground.
Ngata also was down on the field for a couple minutes, although his injury appears minor.
The Pro Bowl defensive tackle initially bent over at the waist in obvious pain, and appeared to be talking with a trainer about his left arm. He walked back towards his teammates after a few minutes but did not return to practice.
He spent the rest of the session shaking out his left hand and watching practice from the sideline.
Ngata declined to talk to reporters on his way to the locker room, saying he had to lift.
