Yesterday, Lardarius Webb mentioned that he didn't plan on playing in any of the Ravens three remaining preseason games, but deferred all questions about the health of his surgically-repaired knee or when he might return to practice to head coach John Harbaugh.
Today, Harbaugh answered those questions. And most Ravens fans will like what he had to say.
Harbaugh said that he's pleased with how Webb is progressing, and expects the second-year cornerback to be taken off the Physically Unable to Perform list sometime soon.
"He's really doing well," Harbaugh said. "I think he's progressing ahead of schedule from what I've been told. It won't be long before you see him off of PUP and out here practicing with the guys, but I think we are going to be cautious with it.
Ah yes, there's that "cautious" word.
That's the word that the Ravens have used throughout training camp referring to a number of their injured players. They're going to take it slow with guys like Webb, Fabian Washington, Ed Reed and Brendon Ayanbadejo as they make their way back from their various surgeries.
As for Webb's comment that he doesn't plan on playing in the preseason, Harbaugh agreed with his injured cornerback and said that's the likely course of action.
"If he can play in the preseason and we feel very comfortable that there's not going to be a setback, then we'll do it," Harbaugh said. "If we think there's any reasonable possibility of a setback, then we'll probably just save him.
"That's kind of been our position all the way through with all our guys. We're going to be cautious with all these guys. The thing you don't want to do is have a setback."
