Some more injury notes

During yesterday's practice, Tavares Gooden saw the majority of the first-team reps at the inside linebacker spot next to Ray Lewis.

This morning, however, Gooden watched practice from the side with a towel wrapped around his neck.

The third-year linebacker was held out of today's morning session because of tightness in his neck, an injury that originally surfaced in the Ravens' preseason opener against the Panthers last Thursday.

"It just keeps tightening back up on him, so we just need to sit him down and settle him down," head coach John Harbaugh said. "He's tried to go the last two days, every time he's tried to go, it spasms back up. So we just need to settle him down the next couple days and try to get him out there on Saturday [against the Redskins]."

Fullback Le'Ron McClain joined Gooden on the sidelines today with a back injury. The two-time Pro Bowler said that the injury isn't anything serious, and he expects to play against the Skins.

"It's a little tight today," McClain said. "Coach told me to chill out today.

"It's just all muscle. Come back and get ready for practice tomorrow and then get ready for the Redskins."

Defensive tackle Brandon McKinney also missed today's practice with a knee injury, but he said the swelling has gone down and expects to return to practice soon.

Cornerback Chris Carr has been taking part in individual drills the last couple days as he works his way back from a hamstring injury. Same deal for second-year corner K.J. Gerard, who also has dealt with a bum hamstring.

The Ravens will continue to take things slow with Carr, who got plenty of reps early in training camp and will need to play a major role in the beat-up Baltimore secondary.
