An alarming statistic

If you look at the Ravens' turnover ratio through these first two games of the season, you'll see a scary number: minus-six.

If this team has any serious Super Bowl aspirations (and I have a hunch that they do), that's something that needs to get fixed. Immediately.

A week after turning the ball over three times in a win over the Jets, the Ravens had four giveaways in today's loss to the Bengals, all four of which came from the arm of Joe Flacco.

Plain and simple, you're not going to win football games when you turn the ball over that often.

You won't win games when you turn it over that often and your offense is clicking and putting up big numbers, much less when your offense is struggling to put points on the board.

Defensively, the Ravens had opportunities today to get some takeaways of their own, but were unable to capitalize. Through two games, a group that normally leads the league in turnovers forced has just a single fumble recovery.

But the bigger concern here is the offense, and Flacco in particular. After having 12 interceptions all of last year, the third-year signal caller has now thrown five picks in two games.

Yes, the Jets and Bengals are both high-quality, aggressive defenses who love to bring pressure. But these are the type of defenses the Ravens will face if they make the playoffs and make a run at the Lombardi Trophy.

Improving that turnover ratio should be at the very top of the Ravens' To-Do list when they get back to work this week.
