The Shayne Graham era has ended before it begun.
Graham, signed this offseason, was released by the Ravens today, according to National Football Post, which means Billy Cundiff has won the team's kicking job.
The decision likely wasn't an easy one.
Both kickers performed well throughout training camp and the preseason, and neither had a clear edge going into today's final round of roster cuts.
Cundiff was leaning on his performance this summer; he outperformed Graham in camp, was perfect on his three field goal attempts this preseason and consistently hit his kickoffs well. Graham's leg up was his experience and track record; he was a Pro Bowler in 2005 and is the fourth most-accurate kicker in NFL history.
In the end, the Ravens chose the hot hand (or foot, I guess).
Cundiff will be their guy this season.
