In case anyone was wondering, the Ravens weren't boycotting the NFL's breast cancer awareness initiative yesterday.
While most teams around the league wore pink gloves, cleats, chinstraps hats, and other accessories yesterday as a way of celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Ravens did not.
They will, however, don the pink attire this upcoming Sunday, when they take on the Broncos at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
SI.com's Peter King (who was all about the Ravens in his Monday Morning QB column this morning) lists Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata among five players currently on his MVP watch.
The fact that a defensive tackle's name is even mentioned when discussing an MVP award should say something about how well Ngata has played this season.
The 6-4, 350 pound Ngata had a ridiculous 11 tackles yesterday, the most he's had in a single game in his already impressive five-year career. He now has 26 tackles on the season, tied for second-most on the team behind Ray Lewis.
He was all over the field against Pittsburgh, wrapping up running back Rashard Mendenhall at the line of scrimmage, chasing down receivers on short routes, and even dropping into coverage on a couple occasions.
The one knock on Ngata throughout his career is that he hasn't made as much of an impact as a pass rusher as some other dominant defensive tackles. Ngata is setting out to squash that talk.
Ngata already has two sacks on the season, and his sack of Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch yesterday was a thing of beauty. The massive defensive tackle was double-teamed, but he danced around the two Pittsburgh offensive linemen, and thanks to some solid coverage on the back-end, was able to eventually wrap up Batch for the big third down sack.
The Pro Bowler is playing better now than he has at any other point in his career. He'll be racking up many more tackles before the season's over, and Ravens fans hope he'll be racking up a monster contract from the team before too long.
