Rice, Cody, Kruger active, Redding not

Despite battling a knee bruise this week, running back Ray Rice is active for today's game against the Steelers, according to the Ravens.

It's unclear whether Rice will start or how much the Pro Bowler will play, but the fact that he's active indicates that he'll be a part of the Ravens' offense in some capacity.

While Rice will suit up today, defensive end Cory Redding, who suffered a concussion last Sunday, will not. Redding is one of the Ravens' eight inactives today.

Here is the full list of Ravens' inactives for this afternoon, according to the team:

WR Donte' Stallworth, CB Prince Miller, CB Josh Wilson, DT Arthur Jones, LB Tavares Gooden, LB Edgar Jones, OT Jared Gaither and DE Cory Redding.

Two names you don't see on that list are defensive end Paul Kruger and nose tackle Terrence Cody, both of whom will make their 2010 season debuts today.

Kruger has been dealing with a shoulder injury the first few weeks of the season, but with Redding out and Trevor Pryce now a member of the New York Jets (aka the New York Ravens), Kruger should get extended playing time today.

As for Cody, the rookie second-round pick is finally active after being held out of the first three games as he worked back from knee surgery. The run-stuffing nose tackle will be counted on to slow Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall today.

One final note: It's a little surprising to see Wilson as one of the inactives, but the coaches like the special teams ability of cornerback Cary Williams, who gets the nod over Wilson today.
