Early in the third quarter tonight, when the Ravens trailed 13-0 and had nothing going for them on offense, defense or special teams, this game looked over.
Ravens fans might wish that the game had actually ended at that point. If it had, they would have been saved some heartbreak.
After Joe Flacco led the Ravens all the way back to take a 21-20 with just over a minute left in the fourth quarter, his fellow third-year quarterback Matt Ryan responded, engineering a late 80-yard drive capped by a 33-yard touchdown pass to Roddy White, giving the Falcons a dramatic 26-21 win.
The Ravens appeared to have the game in hand after Flacco connected with Todd Heap on a nine-yard touchdown pass late in the fourth, giving the Ravens their first lead of the game.
But for the third time this season, the Baltimore defense couldn't make the fourth-quarter lead hold up.
They allowed Ryan to march down the field in just 45 seconds, and with the aid of a couple semi-questionable calls (White not getting called for offensive pass interference on the touchdown will be talked about in Baltimore all week), Atlanta took the lead on White's second TD of the game.
The Ravens' last-ditch effort came up short, and Baltimore drops to 6-3 on the season with the loss.
