When Terrell Suggs is in a good mood, he can be the funniest, most entertaining player in the Ravens' locker room.
Today, with the Ravens preparing to face their arch rivals on Sunday, Suggs was smiling from ear-to-ear and was more than happy to chit-chat with a few reporters, even after he had spent time at the podium talking in front of a handful of TV cameras.
Suggs sent the assembled media into an uproar midway through his locker room interview when he was asked what is different this season that's allowing him to play at a higher level than he did in 2009.
The linebacker turned to the reporter and delivered a deadpan response.
"I quit doing cocaine," Suggs said, as a chorus of laughter burst out from all angles.
Suggs starting laughing as well, and quickly added: "I'm just playing, I'm just playing. My mom's gonna kill me."
He continued with a serious response, saying that he enjoys playing football more now than he did last season.
"I don't know, I just fell back in love with the game," Suggs said. "I just started having fun again. I remember, I think we threw an interception last week, and I just smiled the whole series. I'm like 'Ya'll not gonna score. I'm gonna have a great time out here.'
"I just needed to get away, and I think I was able to do that this offseason, and kind of get back to being Sizzle."
A Ravens PR staffer, informed about Suggs' cocaine comment, then approached and shot Suggs a look which contained half a smile and half a "what the heck did you say that for?" type of glare.
Suggs started laughing again. "I'm sorry!" he said.
Later on, Suggs was asked about the lack of suspensions handed out to Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson and Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan after their brawl on Sunday. Suggs said that he wasn't surprised that neither player was suspended, and said his reasoning hinged on the fact that a quarterback wasn't involved in the fracas.
He then took the opportunity to get in a light-hearted shot at one of his favorite targets - Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
"Maybe [if] I throw some punches at a quarterback with a bad hairdo, I'd get thrown out of the league," Suggs said, drawing some more laughter from reporters.
Finally, Suggs was asked about having Ed Reed back after the six-time Pro Bowl safety missed the first Steelers game.
"When you've got a guy like that, he's like American Express," Suggs said. "He's everywhere you want to be."
Like I said, when Suggs is in a groove, he's in a groove.
And he was groovin' today.
