The Ravens were without a number of key contributors during today's afternoon practice.
Most of the absences were expected, including: left guard Ben Grubbs (toe), wide receiver Lee Evans (left ankle), cornerback Jimmy Smith (high left ankle sprain), wide receiver/kickoff returner David Reed (shoulder) and defensive tackle Terrence Cody (concussion).
I saw Smith limping around prior to practice; he has ditched the crutches that he was using last week, but is still walking very gingerly on his injured left ankle.
A couple other veterans did not participate today; center Matt Birk (left knee) was out at practice in a jersey but had a hat on and was not taking part in drills, and defensive end Cory Redding (unknown) was absent.
One positive for the Ravens is that cornerback Chris Carr, who missed last week's game because of a hamstring injury, returned to practice today.
Carr has been bothered by the sore hamstring since the beginning of training camp, and after a week off, he's apparently healthy enough to return to the practice field and take part in drills.
I'll have quotes from Evans and Grubbs coming up here in a bit, both of whom discussed their respective ailments and their outlook for this week and beyond.
