What's one way to silence your critics?
A 74-yard touchdown on your first NFL reception might do it.
A 41-yard touchdown on your second NFL reception definitely will.
An 18-yard touchdown on your third NFL reception? Now Torrey Smith is just rubbing it in.
Smith, the rookie second-round wide receiver, didn't have a catch in the first 120 minutes of his NFL career. He had gone two full games only being targeted once by quarterback Joe Flacco, and at times looked confused while out on the field.
Today, Smith has looked far from confused. The speedy Maryland product has worked over cornerback Justin King and the Rams secondary, burning them on a go-route for his first TD, a deep post for his second, and a fade route in the end zone for his third score of the game.
Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron clearly saw something on film which led him to believe that Smith could be a huge weapon today. The Ravens have targeted Smith five times through the first quarter, and three of those looks have gone for touchdowns and a 21-0 Baltimore lead.
Go ahead, rookie. Have yourself a day.
