The final injury report of the week came out a bit early today, rendering any of the early-afternoon injury predictions I was planning on making moot.
As expected, wide receiver Lee Evans (ankle) and guard Ben Grubbs (toe) have yet again been ruled out, meaning Monday will mark Evans' fourth straight game missed due to injury, and Grubbs' fifth.
"It's just probably slower than any of us imagined those guys would be," head coach John Harbaugh said of Grubbs and Evans today. "We just have to keep fighting and trying to get them back. I think there's going to be one day when we walk out here and they're going to go through a full practice and they're going to feel good and they'll be ready to go. Hopefully sooner rather than later."
Safety Tom Zbikowski (concussion) is listed as doubtful. Zbikowski had not yet been cleared for contact as of Harbaugh's 1 p.m. press conference, although he took part in practice without any contact today.
"Obviously, it's never as fast (a recovery) as you want it to be," Zbikowski said after practice. "It's a brain injury, it's not a hamstring injury where you make it a little worse. You take pretty good precaution on it before I get out there.
"I've been fine today. Certain things set it off. It's not that painful or anything, but it's something you want to be careful with. I don't want to be going out on the field and not be able to perform like I need to be able to perform. So, get back this week, start feeling good and work and move around and take it from there."
Meanwhile, cornerback Chris Carr (hamstring) is listed as questionable, while rookie corner Jimmy Smith (high left ankle sprain), wide receiver/kickoff returner David Reed (finger) and linebacker Jarret Johnson (back) are probable.
Obviously, that means there's a good chance we'll see Smith make his first game appearance since Week 1 on Monday night. Here are his thoughts on possibly returning for Monday's game.
Reed was a new addition to the injury report today. The second-year man out of Utah, who I've been told was set to handle the kickoff returns Monday night, was limited today because of a finger injury.
Man, that guy just can't stay healthy.
For the Jaguars, safety Courtney Greene (hamstring) has been ruled out. Starting tackle Eben Britton (back) is doubtful, while guard Jason Spitz (quad) is questionable.
With Greene out, Ravens running back Ray Rice won't get a chance to play against a guy he considers his "brother". I wrote about Rice and Greene's friendship earlier this week.
