A few updates and observations

SARASOTA, Fla. - Justin Duchscherer is in the clubhouse, but he’s not throwing or talking.

Derrek Lee is in uniform, but he’s not hitting.

Brian Roberts took ground balls at second base and moved to a batting cage for situational hitting. He swung from both sides of the plate without any restrictions against Double-A Bowie pitching coach Kennie Steenstra.

There’s a piece of good news.

Hitting coach Jim Presley kept barking out situations for each hitter. Infield back, man on third. Man on second, two outs, bottom of the eighth. Man on second, no outs. Hit and run. Squeeze bunt.

When a batter produced a “hit” in the bottom of the ninth, Presley would say “Orioles win.”

Hardy drove one ball deep into the parking lot beyond the left field fence. I didn’t hear the sound of shattering glass, so that’s good.

Roberts took grounders at second with Cesar Izturis. J.J. Hardy and Nick Green took grounders at short. Brendan Harris joined Mark Reynolds at third base.
