Manager Buck Showalter told reporters that second baseman Brian Roberts is having wisdom teeth removed. He didn’t say how many.

Showalter said it was important to give Blake Davis another start after the rookie committed a costly two-run error Wednesday in Pittsburgh.

“The young man’s done a lot to get this opportunity,” Showalter said. “I don’t want that (error) to sit with him for too long.”

Third baseman Mark Reynolds is batting .524 (11-for-21) in his last seven games. He has hits in 12 of his last 14 games, going 18-for-43 (.419) with four doubles, four homers and eight RBIs. He’s also walked 11 times in the last 14 games.

Chris Jakubaukas’ ERA is 1.74 in the first three innings and 7.13 after the third.
