Uehara serves up Lind’s walk-off home run

Koji Uehara threw 11 pitches while retiring the side in order in the bottom of the 10th. He induced a pop up and struck out two batters, including Jose Bautista.

How many times have we seen Uehara replaced after one inning despite being in cruise control?

Manager Buck Showalter sent out Uehara for the 11th inning, and the game ended on the right-hander’s second pitch. Adam Lind hit a walk-off homer.

Toronto 6, Orioles 5.

Uehara threw a splitter for a ball. Then he threw a splitter for Lind’s 12th home run.

Uehara has gone more than one inning only four times in 28 games (and I’m counting tonight despite the box score showing only one inning.). It was the right decision to bring him back out in the 11th. He was throwing the ball extremely well and Showalter already had used four relievers.

It just didn’t work out.

It rarely does in Toronto.
