Quick Matusz update

Orioles reliever Brian Matusz was released from a local hospital late last night, but his status remains uncertain for tonight’s game against the Blue Jays at Camden Yards.

Matusz never made it to the ballpark yesterday due to flu-like symptoms that have swept through the clubhouse. Hitting coach Jim Presley also missed the game, though he reported Camden Yards earlier in the day.

Without Matusz in the bullpen, left-hander Zach Britton was called upon last night to face Adam Lind with two outs in the top of the ninth. Lind bounced to second baseman Steve Lombardozzi.

Britton was the only left-hander in a six-man bullpen.

Manager Buck Showalter suggested last night that Matusz could remain unavailable for tonight’s game. I’ve heard that Matusz seems more likely to stay home and continue his recovery, but we’ll find out after the clubhouse opens to the media at 3:10 p.m. A final decision is pending.

Matusz has stranded all five inherited runners this season, making him 51-for-56 dating back to 2012, the best percentage (91.1) in the majors for relievers with a minimum of 50 innings.
