While waiting for the Orioles lineup ...

The Orioles will attempt today to win back-to-back road series for the first time this season. They’re 4-0 on the road in series finales and 6-3 overall.

gonzalez-miguel-pitch-grey-sidebar.jpgMiguel Gonzalez is working on six days rest today, which isn’t a bad thing. He owns a career ERA of 3.16 in 13 starts with six days or more of rest, compared to 4.30 in 23 starts with four days.

The Orioles lead the majors with a .291 average on the road and are second in runs per game on the road (5.6) behind the Athletics (5.9).

Gold Glove shortstop J.J. Hardy and Platinum Glove third baseman Manny Machado both made an error yesterday. According to Orioles’ PR, it marked the third time in their careers that they committed an error in the same game. It happened in the second inning on April 25, 2013 in Oakland and on consecutive plays in the second inning on Aug. 12, 2013 in Arizona.

Machado’s error was an obstruction call.

Infield Buck Britton, older brother of Orioles reliever Zach Britton, moved up from Double-A Bowie to Triple-A Norfolk and is starting today at third base. Reliever Evan Meek was placed on the Tides’ active roster, and left-hander Anthony Vasquez was transferred to Bowie.

Britton was batting .344/.382/.492 with six doubles, four homers and 15 RBIs in 28 games at Bowie. Orioles manager Buck Showalter has been talking him up in recent days as a utility infield candidate.

Kevin Gausman, on the minor league disabled list after being diagnosed with focal pneumonia, did some throwing yesterday and continues to feel better.

Executive vice president Dan Duquette told MLB Network Radio this morning that he hasn’t engaged in talks with agent Scott Boras regarding Kendrys Morales since the Nelson Cruz signing in spring training. He indicated that the Orioles aren’t pursuing a first baseman/designated hitter.

Removing infielder David Adams from the 40-man roster could be more of an in-house move in case a non-roster player is needed. We’ll see.
