Caleb Joseph is behind the plate.
Andrew Cashner has registered three consecutive quality starts and five in his last six outings, the exception coming after a long rain delay in D.C. after he tossed four scoreless innings. He’s 0-3 with three no-decisions in that span.
Cashner is seeking his first home win this season, his two victories coming in New York and Chicago. He’s 2-2 with a 2.25 ERA and 1.094 WHIP in five career starts against the Yankees and has allowed four runs in 12 innings this season.
Giancarlo Stanton is 1-for-13 against him.
Masahiro Tanaka has allowed one run in two of his last three starts. In between was a June 2 game at Camden Yards when he surrendered four runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. He also faced the Orioles on April 5 and allowed three runs in 6 1/3 innings. He’s struck out 14 batters in his two starts against them.
In 10 career starts versus the Orioles, Tanaka is 3-3 with a 3.90 ERA and 1.179 WHIP with 13 walks and 71 strikeouts in 67 innings. Jones is 11-for-27 (.407) with two doubles and three home runs against him. Manny Machado is 5-for-29 (.172) with two doubles and two home runs.
Tanaka comes off the disabled list to make tonight’s start. He strained both hamstrings while running the bases on June 8.
The Orioles have lost seven of their last eight games, 14 of 16 and 25 of 31. They’ve scored two runs or fewer in nine of the last 12 games. They’re 13-30 at home.
Jonathan Schoop has 14 hits in his last 32 at-bats (.438) with three doubles and two home runs. The eight-game hitting streak is his longest since April 12-20, 2017.
Chris Davis has a hit in nine of his last 12 games.
