Orioles and Rays lineups

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Orioles conclude their road trip tonight with Adam Jones out of the lineup.

Joey Rickard is playing center field and batting eighth.

Jace Peterson is leading off and playing right field. Jonathan Villar moves down to third in the order.

Austin Wynns is catching.

David Hess gets another chance to solidify a spot in the rotation. His ERA is up to 6.41 after he allowed five earned runs (seven total) in 3 1/3 innings in Texas.

Hess has made two starts and one relief appearance against the Rays and allowed only three runs in 13 2/3 innings. His major league debut came against Tampa Bay in Game 1 of a May 12 doubleheader, and he earned the win after surrendering three runs in six innings. He tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings on May 25 at Tropicana Field.

Joey Wendle is 4-for-5 against Hess and Matt Duffy is 2-for-6 with a home run.

The Rays are starting Hunter Wood, as they did against the Orioles on July 26, when he struck out three batters in 1 2/3 scoreless innings. He also went 1 2/3 innings on July 29, but in relief, and surrendered two runs and four hits with four strikeouts. Wynns homered off him.

Yonny Chirinos is expected to follow Wood. He started against the Orioles on July 29 and allowed three earned runs (four total) and six hits in three innings. Chris Davis hit a home run.

Chris-Davis-gray-close.pngDavis is four games away from reaching 1,000 as an Oriole. He can become the 26th active player to appear in at least 1,000 games with his current team and the 14th in the American League. He’ll also become the 18th Oriole in team history to play in 1,000 games.

Gulf Coast League pitcher Grayson Rodriguez, a first-round pick in June, had his streak of scoreless innings to start his professional career end today at 12. Rodriguez allowed five runs (two earned) and five hits in 1 1/3 innings against the GCL Red Sox.
