Orioles and Rays lineups

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Adam Jones is out of the Orioles lineup today for the third consecutive game, with Joey Rickard again in right field.

Trey Mancini is playing first base and Chris Davis is the designated hitter. Jace Peterson is in left field.

Rookie left-hander Rogers-Gray-Far@SEA-sidebar.jpgJosh Rogers makes his third major league start today as the replacement for Alex Cobb, who’s pushed back to Tuesday. Rogers had allowed five runs and 11 hits with three walks and six strikeouts in 10 1/3 innings.

Right-hander Ryne Stanek, the Rays’ “opener” today, has posted a 2.65 ERA and 1.040 WHIP in 49 games this season and is averaging 10.8 strikeouts per nine innings. He’s allowed three runs and struck out 41 batters in 29 1/3 innings at home.

Stanek retired the only batter he faced last night and is making his seventh appearance against the Orioles today. He’s allowed six runs - including five home runs - and struck out 11 batters in eight innings.

Jones is 1-for-4 with a home run against Stanek, but he’s missing the series. Rickard homered in his only at-bat. Mancini and Tim Beckham also have homered.

Right-hander Yonny Chirinos is expected to follow Stanek today.

The Orioles have lost 11 of their last 12 road games. The Rays have won 10 in a row at home, one short of the club record, and are a season-high 13 games above .500, their largest margin since the end of the 2013 season.

The last time that the Orioles were 60 games below .500? When they were the St. Louis Browns in 1939 and finished 43-111.

On this date in 1954, Joe Coleman tossed a one-hitter against Casey Stengel’s Yankees in a 1-0 win at Memorial Stadium. Coleman lost his no-hitter when Enos Slaughter singled in the eighth inning.
