Jeff Niemann retired the side in order in the top of the second, with Brandon Snyder flying to deep center to end the inning.
The Rays took a 2-1 lead against Brian Matusz in the bottom of the inning, with Sean Rodriguez homering on the left-hander's 36th pitch and ending his day.
Carlos Pena reached on second baseman Blake Davis' error leading off the inning. Pat Burrell struck out, but Rodriguez ran the count full before barely clearing the fence in right field.
Matusz reached his pitch count and was removed for Ross Wolf. He was charged with one earned run and struck out four in 1 1/3 innings. He threw 36 pitches, 28 for strikes.
Burrell was so far out in front of a changeup, I think he swung at it twice.
