Post-game Notes: Homer happy Roberts leads O's to win

B-Rob with a longball, then another - Brian Roberts homered for the third game in a row, and this time he hit a pair of homers to lead the O's past Chicago 5-1 on Friday.

He hit a solo shot off Gavin Floyd in the 3rd and his two-run shot in the 8th off Floyd broke a 1-1 tie and sparked a four-run inning.

It was Roberts' second career two-homer game. He also hit two out on September 6, 2006 at Los Angeles. Roberts has now homered four times in the last three games and five times in the last six games.

Over his last three games, he is 6 for 14 with four homers and 8 RBI.

Roberts extended his current batting streak to 11 games tonight. During the streak he is hitting .385-5-13, going 20 for 52 at bat.

He has 14 homers on the year. His career high is 18 in 2005.

Felix Pie was 3 for 4 tonight with three singles, raising his batting average from .247 to .259. Pie is 5 for 10 over his last three games.

Nick Markakis was 1 for 4 tonight with an RBI triple. He has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games, batting .377 in that stretch. For Markakis, 22 of his last 43 hits have gone for extra bases.

Win for Guts - Winning pitcher Jeremy Guthrie gave up just one run over seven innings. He improves to 8-12, 5.45. It's his first win since beating the same Chisox team on July 19th. In those two starts vs. the Sox, he has allowed just 3ER over 15 innings.

Before tonight, Guthrie was 0-4, 7.55 over his last five starts. The O's are now 9-16 when he starts.

Thome time - Jim Thome's solo homer in the 4th was his 23rd homer of this year and 564th of his career. He breaks a tie for 12th all-time he had with Reggie Jackson.

Thome is 9 for 23 this year vs. O's pitching with 4 homers and 11 RBI. He now has 29 career homers in 421 at bats vs. Baltimore pitching.

The Birds are now 2-2 on this road trip and 20-41 on the road on the year. They are 6-14 in August and 10-24 in the second half.

The Orioles take the season series lead, 4-3 over Chicago. They have scored 44 runs in those seven games.
