O’s take lead at New York (update - play ball again)

The Orioles, looking to snap a ten-game losing streak vs. New York and a ten-game losing streak in New York, scored four in the 6th tonight to take a 7-4 lead on the Yankees.

Brian Roberts’ two-run single made it a 5-4 lead, the O’s first lead of the night. Cesar Izturis followed with an RBI hit and Nolan Reimold added a sac fly. The four runs came off reliever Damaso Marte.

Starter Andy Pettitte, who is 26-6 in his career vs. the O’s, will not get a decision tonight. He gave up three runs and five hits over five innings.

New York is 40-13 since the All-Star break and has won seven in a row at home.

In the Yankees’ third inning, Derek Jeter singled to pass Lou Gehrig for most hits ever as a Yankee with 2,722.

The O’s Felix Pie left the game with an undislcosed injury in the top of the sixth. He was up at bat with a count of 1-2 when trainer Brian Ebel and manager Dave Trembley came out to attend to him and he left the contest. Also in that inning, Ty Wigginton pinch hit for Melvin Mora who earlier was hit in the arm by a Pettitte pitch.

UPDATE - Now tonight’s game is in a rain delay with the O’s at bat and leading 10-4 in the 7th. The O’s added three runs in the 7th, on an Izturis RBI single and Markakis two-run single.

If they call it now it is an official game and would end with a 10-4 final.

SECOND UPDATE - The game resumed at 12:43 am, after a delay of a little over an hour. The O’s lead 10-4 in the seventh.

THIRD UPDATE - The O’s now report that Felix Pie left tonight’s game back in the 6th inning due to back spasms.
