Tonight's pitchers: Hernandez vs. Burnett

RHP David Hernandez (4-6, 4.24) tonight makes his 14th start of the season, his 7th at home and his 2nd of the year vs. New York.

Hernandez did not get a decision in his last start vs. Cleveland when he gave up two runs over six innings.

Hernandez, 2009 season:
In July: 2-0, 2.45 in four starts
In August: 1-4, 5.83 in six starts

Right-handed batters hit .283 off Hernandez while lefties bat .271 and he gives up an average of just .156 when pitching with runners in scoring position.

The Orioles are 5-8 when he starts, losing the last three times out. In six home starts, the right-hander is 2-3, 4.01.

He has allowed 2ER or less in seven of 13 starts.

In his only previous start vs. New York, July 20 at Yankee Stadium, Hernandez gave up just three hits and one run over six innings as he dueled with Andy Pettitte. He threw 103 pitches but did not get a decision in a game the O's lost 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth.

A.J. Burnett (10-8, 4.10) tonight will make his 27th start of the year, his 14th on the road and the 12th in his career vs. Baltimore.

Burnett is 8th in the American League in strikeouts, but first in walks with 80.

Two starts ago, he gave up nine runs in five innings vs. Boston. In six August starts, he went 0-4, 6.03.

Burnett, 2009 season:
First half: 8-4, 3.77 in 17 starts
Second half: 2-4, 4.71 in 9 starts

He went 18-10, 4.07 last year with Toronto then signed as a free agent in December with New York. He signed a 5-year, 82 million dollar deal with the Yankees.

New York is 16-10 when he starts, but has lost three in a row. In 13 road starts, Burnett is 6-6, 4.78.
