Losing streak reaches four as O’s fall at Seattle

The Orioles are now one loss away from following a five-game win streak with five consecutive losses.

They are now 0-4 on their current road trip after this afternoon’s 4-3 loss at Seattle, as they fall to 24-28. The Mariners have won 10 of 12 games to improve to 27-26.

Jake Arrieta had the shortest start of his career as he allowed four runs and four hits in just 2 1/3 innings and 68 pitches. He falls to 6-3 with an ERA of 4.97. Arrieta issued two bases-loaded walks in the Seattle third, a few batters after taking a shot off his left leg on a ball hit up the middle by Ichiro Suzuki. Over his last three starts, Arrieta has given up 12 ER over 12 innings.

In four games on this road trip, Orioles’ starters have allowed 13 ER and 29 hits over 18 innings for an ERA of 6.50.

Mark Reynolds hit a solo homer in the third and the Orioles scored twice in the eighth, but left two men on trying to get the tie run.

The Orioles went just 1-for-10 today when batting with runners in scoring position and are just 4-for-31 (.129) in those situations on this trip. Vlad Guerrero went 0-for-4 but did drive in a run as his 14-game hitting streak came to an end. He batted .361 during the streak.

The Orioles fall to 7-12 in series-opening games, 7-4 in one-run games and 10-24 when their opponent scores first. They are now 4-6 in games against the AL West.

The Orioles have scored just 11 runs on the trip and will try to break the four-game slide on Tuesday night at Seattle when Jeremy Guthrie (2-6, 3.63) faces former Oriole Erik Bedard (3-4, 3.48).
