BOWIE, Md. - Alfredo Simon, making his second start for Double-A Bowie here today, has pitched shutout ball through three innings and has a 2-0 lead on Richmond with Bowie batting in the third.
Simon just threw 19 pitches in the third, 12 for strikes. He has allowed two singles and one walk in the game, and has four strikeouts. He has touched 94 on the radar gun and has thrown some nice off-speed pitches, as well.
Simon gave up a single in the first and Richmond put the first two runners on base in the second when the leadoff man struck out, but reached on a passed ball and then a single followed. He got out of that, though, with a strikeout and double play grounder. Brandon Waring made a nice play at third and so did Robbie Widlansky at first on a low throw.
The right-handed starter gave up a walk, but nothing else in the third. Simon has thrown 41 pitches so far, 28 for strikes.
The Baysox took a 2-0 lead in the second, getting a pair of two-out, RBI singles from Pedro Florimon and Carlos Rojas. Bowie used three hits and a walk to get the 2-0 lead on Richmond lefty Ryan Verdugo, who entered with a record of 1-0 and 2.16 ERA.
