BOWIE, Md. - Fans coming here to Prince George's Stadium tonight will not see Manny Machado play, as he has left to play in the Futures Game Sunday in Kansas City. But they will see two players that have been in the major leagues and who have hopes of joining the Orioles when play resumes after the All-Star break.
Nick Markakis and Taylor Teagarden are both in Bowie's lineup. Markakis will bat second and play in right field and Teagarden is batting third as the DH.
Markakis has been out since May 29 after having surgery to repair his injured right wrist. He had a broken piece of hamate bone removed and took batting practice this week to prepare to play here tonight.
Markakis has not played for Bowie since the 2005 season. He began that year with Single-A Frederick and was promoted to Bowie in August after he hit .300 with the Keys. He finished that season with the Baysox and hit .339 over 33 games with 16 doubles, three homers and 30 RBIs. He posted a slugging percentage of .571 and OPS of .993 for a Bowie team that included Brandon Fahey, Tripper Johnson and Cory Keylor.
The next year, Markakis made the Orioles opening day roster and he still has never played a game at the Triple-A level.
The 28-year-old Teagarden was acquired by the Orioles from Texas December 1 for pitcher Randy Henry and infielder Greg Miclat. He has been out all year with a slight ligament tear in his back, but returned to play in games this week.
Teagarden went 1-for-8 in three games in the Gulf Coast League and was 1-for-5 last night for Bowie. He could join the O's roster soon as the backup catcher to Matt Wieters. Teagarden last played at the Double-A level in 2010.
Tonight's Bowie lineup:
CF - Antoan Richardson
RF - Nick Markakis
DH - Taylor Teagarden
LF - Robbie Widlansky
1B - Rhyne Hughes
SS - Jonathan Schoop
2B - Josh Barfield
3B - Zelous Wheeler

Tonight's Akron pitcher Steven Wright is 6-5 with an ERA of 2.25 and is a knuckleballer. Welcome back Nick, try and hit the knuckleball. Wright has the second best ERA in the Eastern League.
Bowie is 42-44 with a four-game losing streak. Check back here often tonight and follow me on Twitter for updates from this game including post-game comments from Markakis and Teagarden.
Update: In his first at-bat tonight, Markakis was called out on strikes on a 2-2 pitch frpm Wright. He fouled off a couple of pitches and then was called out for the second out of the last of the first.
Teagarden followed that with a ground single to center on a 1-1 pitch, but was left at first base when Robbie Widlansky struck out to end the inning. Eddie Gamboa is on the mound for Bowie tonight and the Baysox trail 1-0 after one inning.
