Outfielder Nyjer Morgan, who has been out most of this week after injuring his right leg last Sunday against the Cardinals, said his right hip is a little tight, but he feels 100 percent healthy. Still, manager Jim Riggleman said Morgan will be held out until at least Monday as a precaution.
“Monday still gives us two weeks,” Riggleman said. “In some respects, we’re being a little conservative. Monday is the earliest.”
Morgan is hitting .143 this spring as he works on some swing adjustments with hitting coach Rick Eckstein, and the injury has kept him from seeing live pitching all week. He said he could play now, but thinks he’ll still have enough time to work out the kinks before Opening Day on April 5.
“It’s basically the time of spring training where you want to start getting ready before the big lights get turned on,” Morgan said. “Hopefully I’ll be back in there on Monday or Sunday.”
