Stephen Strasburg will make his second start of the spring tomorrow afternoon, and is slated to throw three innings against the Cardinals, manager Jim Riggleman said. Whether that’s Strasburg’s last start in major-league camp this spring remains to be seen, but Riggleman said he expected Strasburg would pitch again on Friday against the Cardinals.
“My guess is that he would,” Riggleman said. “With all the pitchers, that’s Steve McCatty’s and Spin Williams, those guys set up the pitchers during spring training, ... It’s kind of an organizational decision when you’re talking about pitching a guy. I don’t make any assumptions. I can make an assumption with Marquis and Lannan, but I’m not making too many other than that.”
Strasburg allowed two hits in two shutout innings last Tuesday against the Tigers, and threw some extra pitches in the bullpen after throwing 27 in his start. Riggleman said the Nationals would go that route with him again if he works quick, rather than extending him to three innings.
