Marquis won’t need surgery; Zimmerman out tomorrow

A couple quick injury updates:

--The Nationals got their second opinion back on right-hander Jason Marquis’ elbow on Thursday; Dr. Tim Kremchek, who examined Marquis in Cincinnati, determined Marquis will not need surgery to remove loose bodies in his right elbow. Marquis had a cortisone shot and will not throw for 7-10 days; after that, he will begin a throwing program that will have him back in six weeks.

--Third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, who has a severe cramp in his right hamstring and did not play today, will also sit out tomorrow, manager Jim Riggleman said after Thursday’s game. “He may hit tomorrow, but he wasn’t going to hit today,” Riggleman said. “There’s just something in there that’s just tight. Whether that is a severe cramp that just won’t get out of there or what, I don’t know.”
